JUN. JUL. 2021 II Today, ‘my’ Board inherits a healthy, cohesive Cooperative that is proud of its history; a history full of hardships and difficulties but above all of courage and a desire to work, which has led a small nucleus of 10 companies to unite and become today the most important Italian association in the Horeca sector, in which 36 members live together with great respect and a spirit of collaboration. This does not mean that there is no work to be done, on the contrary, now the most difficult challenges begin! The objective that my Board has set itself is the most important one, from which the Cooperative derives its origins: to increase the loyalty of current members and encourage new entrants. This can only be done by strengthening the commercial centre (in Milan) so as to enhance the value of joint purchasing with national and international contracts, increasing and selecting the quality of branded products and increasing imports. I am sure, in fact, that today we only exploit a small part of the purchasing potential of our Group and that, if we succeed in doing this with greater strength, we will put our members in a privileged position in the market. In fact, the pandemic has shown that the medium-sized companies in our sector have been more adaptable, have lower costs and provide greater service than the large companies and that, if we can get them to buy on equal or similar terms to the market leaders, we will have put them in a position of great advantage with excellent possibilities for growth and profits. Our goals are ambitious, and to enable us to achieve them, we need great commitment and a great team in which experience and ‘youth’ come together to have the wisdom to improve and the ambition to grow. And that is why, in thanking the new Board who have put their trust in me, I want to wish us all the best of luck!” LORENZO MORELLI Vice Chairman “The new Board was created on very solid foundations. We take the baton from Vincenzo Murgia, who led CIC for 7 years, and from his predecessor, Italo Nebiolo, two presidents who with their work have allowed the Cooperative to reap important successes and growth. Both the more experienced members and the newly appointed ones, such as Manuel Murgia and Massimo Sassi, who mark an important generational change, will be called upon to work together to strengthen the results achieved so far. Our task is to proceed with continuity, helping CIC progress on the basis of the excellent conditions that the previous managements have left us. In other words, we will be called upon to manage the Cooperative with rationality and intelligence, just as we have been taught by those who went before us. Their successes prove them right. Now it is a question of continuing along the same path, always adapting the management of CIC to the changing times”. ANTONIO BOCCHI Board member “The Board of Directors has renewed itself, by rejuvenating its composition. In this context, my participation is and will be a contribution of experience, which I hope will be useful in facing the many challenges to which the Board will be called. In fact, we’ll have a lot to do to face such a bad and difficult period. In particular, we will have to work towards two priorities: on the one hand to be more competitive in the markets, and on the other to be more efficient, guaranteeing better service. Ambitious goals, for the achievement of which it will be valuable to follow the old motto: to ensure professionalism, quality and courtesy to the customer. But that’s not all. It will also be necessary to be tenacious and in step with the times in dealing with our suppliers”. MASSIMO SASSI Board member “The new Board, of which I am a member for the first time, will have a clear and precise objective: to strengthen the involvement of the members, to make a common front and push ahead in a coordinated way. Thanks to this strategy, we will be able to cope with a dynamic already present before Covid and destined to become stronger in the post- pandemic context: the increasingly massive presence of large operators in the Horeca distribution channel. The smaller ones, who before the health emergency could leverage the high quality of the service, are now heavily penalized. The opportunity for aggregation that CIC can offer therefore represents a winning formula. In fact, unity is strength now more than ever. And in particular, I believe that the ability to work as a team must and can find practical application in the increase of branded products and, even more specifically, in the expansion of the penetration of the latter in the product ranges of individual members.
